Eric the Volunteer
Yes, I'm now a volunteer with CDAC. Don't ask me why I enrolled myself. It's done on impulse. Thot of doing something meaningful while I'm still young, and went to NVPC web to do a search. And found this programme which sounded rather fun.So I sent my application and got recruited.
It's actually a programme to teach kids between 4-8 years old to read and engage them in opening up, cultivating their reading habit. There are also outings during the school holidays.
Went for my 1st session last Sat. Every volunteer is a "she". So I asked the leader if there are any guys who actually joined this programme. She said yes, but subsequently they left; reason being either they are uncomfortable or joined other programmes. So there were a few groups, 1 group is the younger kids who can't really read n write, 1 group who are rather ok, and 1 group who can read well. I picked the youngest group.
Overall, seems fun, teaching them shapes and drawings and etc. But it's really weird being the only guy there though. Haha ~ But the kids are really fun to be with. Shall try it out for a few more weeks and decide whether I should continue or join other programmes.
